Given how far we've gone a little hubris is something we've earned, if you havn't noticed humans are basically Gods compared to other animals.
And frankly "earthly desires" are good. That's how capitalism works. I want crap, that means someone has to make crap, that means they need a job. Eventually I want more stuff and we need more jobs and inventions.
