That's the gland or some such structure in the brain that governs fear and can act as a trigger for the release of adrenaline in times of immediate danger and distress. Modern Westerners, as our society becomes more decadent, increasingly have fewer things to fear. Because of this, essentially our standards for fear are dramatically lowered, and the amygdala never properly, fully develops. Things that can actually kill you are atypical, and this leads to the perceptions of fear and anxiety shifting away from major dangers to trivial things such as harmless bugs, social ostracization, and having your opinion challenged.
In short, people literally perceive fear like children because of an underdeveloped amygdala. Thus, differences of opinion are seen as "dangerous" rather than "challenging" because these people have no perspective as to what danger is.
Couple that with cultural Marxist critical theory, and suddenly you have a generation of malcontents preaching the destruction of the same society that allows them to live without real fear.
