I admit that the have tried but they were awful about propaganda and to this day they still suck at this. They even couldn't brainwash their own population which was completely in their control.
In fact there was subversion, but in completely opposite direction Hollywood and the American dream have won the minds of the whole socialist block. This is the main reason for the big fail of communism.
