First of all, this was created by someone with a PHD in Marriage and Family, which has nothing to do with "culutral appropriation", so her credentials are completely irrelevant to the creation of this chart.
Second, (fashion/art/music) always borrows from other sources.
That is literally true. The majority of art is created by bastardizing and twisting another idea until its something completely different. I'm a novelist and this is how I get the concept for all of my stories.
As a practical example, consider this:
>HP Lovecraft really puts American Horror into concrete in the 20's. >Kolchak the Night Stalker comes along 40 years later and is based on HP Lovecraft stories >X-Files comes along 40 years later and is based on Kolchak the Night Stalker, (Darren McGavin was actually going to guest star as the creator of the X-Files department at one point). Not to even mention that Stephen King began his writing career writing Cthulhu Mythos, which lead into creating his own ideas.
