Today in class a girl said that religion today is ridiculous because no one realizes that everyone who follows their own religion will be saved by their respective god(s).

I said that I didn't agree and everyone got really angry with me.

Paganism is not bad because it makes aware of how an object can be multitidinuous, in the sense there are so many perspectives and ways of knowing it. Respecting people's different ways of knowing the world is fundamental to any kind of ethics, I think. The issue is when one side does not feel compelled to accept and restrain freedom of speech, hence Islam's issues. I believe the issue is because Islam cannot set any idols before Allah, but consider how Hindus and even Christians don't have this problem. They say the idols are "expressions" God to better understand him, at least the more liberal ones, but it is easier to interpret this from their texts. Sufism does not have this issue as much, but it does tend to fall back onto it.

If ISIS really was the perfect display of Islam, how come the Palmyra ruins have stood the test of time till now? But let's be honest, what have Turks accomplished? During Safavid Empire, Turks in the court were considered "men of the sword" whereas Persians "men of the pen". In Persian culture, there is a respect for education and sciences, but I don't see anything like this with Turks or Arabs. If anything, I think such cultural values goes back to Iran's pre-Islamic times.

Islam sucks. Zoroastrianism was better. Greco-Buddhism was the best though.

Actually Christians just don't have idols. Idolatry in Christian thought requires belief that the alleged idol has inherent divine power through its own will or that anything that is not God has the power of God. A statue of Jesus isn't actually Jesus and doesn't have His divine power. Idolatrous pagans on the other hand would believe that, say, the Donar Oak was really Thor and had Thor's power.
