How can we work together to end the stigma against people living with the Herpes (cold sores) virus?

As far as I know, I don't have it. I've never knowingly had a cold sore. But is it possible to have it without presenting symptoms? It's one of those things I've never really understood fully. Much like HPV; attempting to fully understand that was too challenging for my feeble mind.

That's the thing, isn't it. I gather there's no definitive test? Unless I've misunderstood. I seem to recall reading that they can scrape sores and test that, or test your blood around the time of infection, but there's no constant, reliable way of testing. I may be talking utter crap now, though.

i have them visible on my 3rd grade school photo.

they often show up if my lips receive some kind of damage: dry skin, sunburn, scratching and breaking the skin, etc.

Most people get it as a kid from a parent and you can't get rid of it. There is no stigma attached to oral herpes.

i get a cold sore about once a year. it sucks. lasts awhile, fucking hurts, and is very ugly.

the trick to this type is that it tingles weirdly as its coming up. i you use one of the over the counter oral medicines on it really early, while it's just starting to tingle, it will be drastically reduced. its almost a non factor if you catch it early. it would suck if i didnt have that shit

The test is for genital herpes, type 2, or herpes genitalis. They can do a simple swipe test on sores in your netherregion.

Type 1 is the cold sore/lip type, and is called herpes simplex. They are slightly different strains of viruses. Although they look and feel kind of the same, they are really not.

Type 1 CAN, in very rare cases, mutate to type 2 when transmitted to another person, but not in your body. If you have an outbreak of type 1, and go down on your GF, she COULD get type 2, but it is very rare, even if your sores aren't dry.

If you fuck a girl with an active outbreak of type 2, you risk getting type 2. If she doesn't have an active outbreak, you are safe, BUT, outbreaks can be hard to get an eye on.

Loads have type 1. It's no biggie for most people, and a lot get very mild or no symptoms at all. For some, it's hell. In time, outbreaks are less frequent and milder, and might stop entirely. The virus remains in your body, but is dormant.

Type 2 is a lot more rare. Use a condom when not in a committed relationship.

A few days ago I noticed some little spots on my shaft, one got slightly bigger but nothing untoward, thought it was just a hair follicle or something, then a couple of days ago two white bumps appear on the rim of my glans... Not sure if herpes or not.
Troubling thing is that the last time I had unprotected sex was two years ago and I can't figure out how I could have gotten it

I have a pathological fear of contracting herpes. I broke off relationship with a woman I really liked and had great potential with after she mentioned she had a cold sore on a date. Hell, my own sister has the oral herps (from being a slut) and now every time I am around her I constantly watch her to ensure she doesn't try to share someone's drink or food (family does this alot)

What's really fucked up is that she continues to kiss our niece and nephews goodbye, often directly on the mouth. I lose my fucking mind everytime I see her do this, I haven't said anything yet, I Just GTFO there.
