An autocratic regime with a skilled statesman at its head is objectively superior to even the best democracy, it can put plans into action with great efficiency because it doesn't need the consent of a group of likely corrupt or unskilled statesmen to act.
That being said, an autocratic regime falls apart when an unskilled statesman takes the lead, which is why there must be measures in place to depose poor leaders that can't simply be bypassed by said poor leader.
