Try again.>>54676553As a post doc at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (UofT), I can happily say that 1) educating this new wave of ultra liberals, and 2) influencing policy via research (and obtaining the necessary grant funding and audience to do so) have become extremely difficult because our priorities have shifted from 'freedoms and liberties' to stupid fucking fringe issues. I can't even write a paper about type 2 diabetes, obesity, and sedentary lifestyles because it OFFENDS people. A colleague can't even criticize certain phenomena in the 'social determinants of health' because her topic OFFENDS people. Right off the bat, two topics that seek to improve public health in Canada, and we don't have the freedom to do so. Sure, I've de-railed the topic a tiny bit, but it sure pisses me off when I live in Canada, and I'm being censored when it comes to an area like public health. And i'm far from the only person in higher education that is frustrated with this shit.
Thankfully, I've got a job lined up at USyd starting March 2016.
