Against an actual nation with a military, in conventional warfare? We haven't done that in a long time, and China probably wouldnt want to find out just how rusty we are at it.
i do wonder about friendly nations though. in a hypothetical US/China war, (lets say, over this patch of ocean) who would ally with who? in fact, would many countries even get involved? For example, I cant really see Russia getting involved one way or another. They have no quarrel with China, but despite not liking the US, they dont want actually fight the US. gotta maintain that Cold War rivalry thing going.
