>>54685115> Why the fuck haven't we moved on from this antiquated garbage by now?Because Science has not yet provided anything to counter this garbage. You must consider the good things which results from religion, because you're already aware of the bad.
First example: In a society, religion generally promotes:
>rule-abiding behaviorThe alternative to this is the creation of more and more laws with harsher and harsher punishments for breaking them. Which one would you choose?
>helping the poorThe alternative to this is *forcing* others to help the poor. Which would you choose?
For individuals, religion:
>Causes one to feel connected to everyone elseThere is no alternative to this, as Science has not yet been able to produce this experience. This experience is one we should all have for the benefit of society.
>Causes people to think there is something greater than themselvesThere is no alternative to this, because Science has not yet been able to manufacture this feeling for people on a large scale. This experience is good for maintaining a healthy society, because the "higher power" does not need to be a deity, but could be the society itself.
So you see...if and when Science catches up and gives the general people an alternative "spirituality" thus extinguishing their need for religion...THEN we will be on our way to getting rid of antiquated garbage.
Praise Ba'al!
