My wife's maintenance diet is like 1600 calories/day without exercise. My mother's maintenance diet is like 1200 calories/day without exercise.
An hour of moderate exercise for a small person is only going to be like 300 more calories for the day. Obviously if you are large or very heavy it might be 600 calories/hr or more.
My maintenance without exercise is closer to 3000, since I'm 6'2 and relatively muscular.
The main reason why this bugs me is that if you look at the nutrition label on any package, all of the information says "BASED ON A 2000 CALORIE DIET." I would think if you were going to pull a number out of your ass for how many calories the average person eats in a day, 2000 would be it.
