The "Colossus of Rhodes" never existed, at least in the form depicted in the OP image.

It was most likely just a slightly-bigger-than-usual statue that was built on a single piece rather than extending of the entrance to rest of two pieces.

Oh I know that it was off to the side of the harbour, but it's still odd to assume that a "slightly-bigger-than-usual statue" would be grouped together with the Pyramids and the Statue of Zeus
