A lot of the people who get into cosplay do it because they're failed models who want to exploit needy desperate guys for cash, or they're extremely shallow people who depend on likes to boost their sense of self-worth. The competitive scene is what has really ruined cosplay and it eventually drags everyone down. I've found that a lot of cosplayers tend to hate themselves, and it's kind of sad, but it's hard to feel that sorry for them considering how hypocritical and two-faced they are. Cosplayers are always spouting on about positivity, but they're very quick to turn on others.

There's also the growing trend of tumblrinas stalking people to find targets. Accusations of cultural appropriation and blackface has been growing over the past couple years. Most of the tumblr people themselves don't cosplay, they're just observers out to find problematic things they can boost their own popularity with.

It's just a matter of being shallow. Given the overlap between "sex work" and regular, serious cosplayers, it's other stuff as well, low self-esteem is a big part of it, broken homes etc. A lot of these girls when I was growing up attached themselves exclusively to niche musical subcultures, they'd be heavily involved in the rave scene for example, it's just that over the course of the past 5-10 years they sort of "discovered" stuff like video games and anime and got involved with it. They're social butterflies of a sort. I mean I remember when the only real camwhore we had on 4chan was Togi-chan, these days theyr'e all over the place.

I would say working hard is a part of being masculine but not necessarily being gainfully employed because there's other factors that go into that. For example, each semester students graduate college even with STEM degrees and can't get a job. It's not their fault, there's just no room for them in the job market. Same attitude the Chinese have, and it's good. Criticism from within is productive and it's how you improve, criticism from foreigners is just aimed to weaken you 99% of the time, or its exploited by foreign powers to be as such.

The "kind of hot" part came into play in my case, but later. There was an emotional connection first.
Maybe it was caused by watching my parents and their pretty (successful? can't find the right word) life together, which led me to see dad as a good potential partner somewhere on a subconscious level.
Maybe it was caused by attention. We girls are social creatures (majorly), love talking to people and all. Guys see it as attention whoring and/or useless small talk, but we're like that. Dad gave me plenty of his time, and we used it all on hiking, travelling on hand-made boats, running, discussing books, all kinds of stuff. We have a saying here that goes like "if they'll suffer each other, they'll fall in love eventually". Maybe those bonding experiences paid off.
It's just that at some point I realized dad was very special to me, and it spiraled from there. He still is, mind you, but not in a sexual way. I hope.

As for the mother-daughter jealousy, looking back, I think mom could've appreciated him more, but if he never tried to correct her attitude on my memory, then it's not my right to judge at all.
If anything, I felt guilty over the top at the time.
