That dog, at the moment it charged the police officer who was working and doing his job, who is risking his life so people can sit on their lazy ass without worrying that their shit will be stolen or that they're going to be murdered for shits and giggles, became a threat to the life of that officer and if he thought it be the best way to eliminate that threat by killing it, then so be it, his judgement at that moment counts infinitely more than any opinion at a later stage when all is safe again.
No one got hurt, only a pet was killed who, again, might have been a threat to this officer's life, you can't just fucking ignore that and say: "DUDE LMAO JUST LET HIM BITE YOU AND THEN SPREAD HIS FOREPAWS SO HE'LL DIE OF A HEARTATTACK XDXDXD" like what the actual fuck, how is that in any way better than just shooting it at the moment it charges you...in your case you'd be wounded, and the dog would be suffering a heart attack, and you'd still wouldn't have pulled your gun so you're defenseless in enemy territory (you don't know why he was going onto that property, so i can not but assume he had a valid reason, and thus cannot but assume that the property he was entering was dangerous)
