China and Germany are coming closer to a cybersecurity deal that'll probably mimic the one set up recently between the US and China aimed at stopping economic cyber espionage.

Chinese hackers are known to target Western companies and gubments, although Premier Li Keqiang recently denied it.

China is one of Germany's biggest trading partners, and Germany is China's largest trading partner in the EU. 2014 saw €154bn in trade between the two countries.

In the past German officials have been worried about China targeting German Mittelstand (medium-sized companies) which are often technologically advanced but lack good IT security.

The US-China agreement, according to some, did little to stop Chinese hackers in who, it is alleged, still target the US today.
