A couple of people get plague every year. Armadillos and prairie dogs carry it.

It's not terribly dangerous to someone with access to modern medicine vs. a half-starved medieval peasant.

Yeah, he's right. It's a minor menace in the Southwest that effects mostly those that don't know any better such as children and those foreign to the region. Local doctors are more than familiar with it. If you contracted it and traveled back east though, you could be in a world of hurt as even a lot of physcicians erroneously believe the disease extinct.

You can get it from fleas, that have eaten of any number of small rat-like animals. It's not even that dangerous of a thing, what with all the medications and all that. Hell, rattlesnakes kill more people than the plague, in a year's time.

Now if you let it evolve for a few hundred years without ever bothering to modify the cure, that's where problems crop up. This is why "Patient Zero," would present a big problem. It would be so different from the modern day, it may as well be a brand new virus.

Listen up, retards. The plague never left. It's existed since the Black Death started running around Europe. Thankfully, we're not going to see an outbreak because we have stellar hygiene compared to the time when it was rampant. It's also treatable. The only real scenario we would ever have to worry about is that it spreads too fast for us to contain and even that's unlikely.

If it hit India it'd probably wipe them out.

Prairie Dogs in America are still active carriers of the Black Plague.

We could make sure 100 percent that Black Plague could not find such a convenient carrier anymore like prairie dogs if we just eliminated them but we don't do such a common sense thing and just allow Black Plague to remain in existence in America.
