In computer science (or at least any programming language that doesn't suck dicks), there's a few types of equal -- assignment, where one value can be given to another, comparison, where two values are determined to be equal, and exact comparison, where two objects are determined to be equal and the same type.
Separate But Equal is the second type -- an integer (nigger) and a decimal (whites) can both have the value "1" (use a water fountain), but will fail this third test because they still don't have the same data type even if they are assigned the same value (using separate water fountains for their type).
What you are asking for is nominal equality, but not true equality.
However, note my comparison; integers and decimals can have the same values some of the time, but they are still inherently different. This, then, comes down to what you believe: ARE whites and blacks inherently different? If so, are other people valid in saying they aren't for the purposes of this assignment of values?
