Are we talking oral herpes? 70% of westerners have it, and most get it long before they become sexually active. It's ok to want to avoid it, but don't delude yourself that it's degenerate. It's just easy to spread and not terribly lethal or dangerous with modern medicine.

I was a dumb 17 year old girl who thought "only sluts get STDs" when I hooked up with my best friend's cousin (at her insistence). He was only the 2nd person I slept with. I got all my Guardisil shots so I was "immune" to the HPV virus and was on birth control. All good to go in my mind.

Then I found out I had gotten genital warts. He was the only guy I slept with in at least 2 years. I was in serious (for a 15 year old) before that.
It turns out I was part of the 10% that the Guardisil didn't really work for. I'm not mad at that though, I should have known better.

So that's it. 2 guys and I'm forever a slut at 21. I'm more mad at myself than anyone/anything else. I just thought you guys should know that sometimes shit does happen.

But then again honestly, I would never trust a girl who told my story. I had friends lie about getting raped to get out of cheating, not tell partners about STDs.

I haven't read statistics on herpes, but about 90% of people have/will get HPV. The thing about both diseases is that they are dormant in a majority of people so most will never experience symptoms and those that do usually only get them once, similar to something like chickenpox.

Odds are you have at least one strain of herpes and/or HPV. It's very possible you were born with it.

I would have thought that people are more capable of picking their partner out of a whole variety of school kids, rather than going out to the club with 15 other people, half of which are girls, at which point your chances of finding 'the one' is severely hampered.

9/10 people who have genital herpes don't even know. Conventional STD tests don't check for it because it's non life threatening and it really does no good for people to know they have it - it fucks with them psychologically.

A condom doesn't guard against it particularly effectively.

Unless you make every woman you sleep with go get a specific test for herpes before you sleep with her you can acquire this disease pretty easily without being "degenerate."
