As Egypt grew from and around the Nile, it's population naturally consisted of Nilotics, hence the name. A Civilization was formed as south Semites (modern day Ethiopians, Sudanese) moved in and forged their own Kingdoms to the south in Nubia. The Civilization continued to develop as Semites (Arabs, Jews) moved in from the east.
Egypt is overplayed in Africa regardless. Equally, if not more impressive empires existed in Persia (Iraq and Iran), Syria, Kush (Sudan), and Axum (Ethiopia)
Egypt was conquered by Kush, then by Syria, Kush was conquered by Axum, then Islam happened and put the whole region under a Caliphate (Outside of Axum which, weakened by Islam-imposed isolation then fell to become Beta Israel).
Eitherway, it's all irrelevant what race they were. They were a civilization that left behind wonders, art, language, and history.
