What are /pol/'s thoughts on America's little Caribbean island adventure?
I'll give you a rundown
>Be President Reagan in 1983
>Former British colony of Grenada has an active Communist party known as the New Jewel Movement
>NJW launches a coup in '79 and installs Maurice Bishop as PM
>Large numbers of Cuban troops and Soviet advisors arrive on the island to supervise construction of an airfield and begin storing large numbers of weapons to be shipped to various rebel groups in South America.
>Four years later...
>Another coup ousts and later executes Bishop and imprisons the Governor Paul Scoon (Grenada, although independent, is still part of the UK Commonwealth)
>A medical school on the island has a large number of college students from the US
>Reagan fears a repeat of the Iran Hostage Crisis, which had ruined Jimmy Carter's presidency.
>On October 25th, Reagan diverts US Marines bound for Lebanon and orders the 75th Ranger Regiment and 82nd Airborne dropped in to remove Commies from power.
>Grenadians get BTFO'd, Cubans fair little better.
>Thatcher is pissed
>Freedom and Democracy restored, Students rescued
>At 113 dead, it is perhaps of the most bloodless US Military interventions of all time.
