the rat shit may be true though. Rats develop a social hierarchy and the bottom rung is the first to eat something interestingly because if the bottom one dies, the others know not to touch whatever they ate. Their loners are the pointmen. So if they see a rat getting wonky in the cage after drinking from the laced bottle, they'll avoid that bottle.
