The president doesn't fucking control the economy as much as people think.
Bush inherited a shitty economic recession that started DURING Clinton's presidency. He did very little to fix the problem, but it started to naturally get better thanks to economics. It was on the upswing when Obama got into office, and now we're doing pretty decently.
I'm not saying Bush was a great president, because I don't think he was. However, it's hard to be a good president when you inherit America in a recession, and the worst terrorist attack in america's history happens to you. You get dragged into wars, debt, and the whole world's economy crashed for a while. If the two swapped sides, Obama being elected in 2000 and Bush in 2008, the same shit would have happened, and Bush would look like Jesus.
