If you didn't know already, there's a new type of thread called a Rolling Sticky where every 1000 posts it starts to delete the posts behind it to make more space. It's supposed to cut down on the amount of stickied threads during events being created by moderators to contain discussions.
I was thinking that it might actually be useful to use these types of rolling threads on /vg/, where instead of copy-pasting their general OPs and waiting until the bump limit to create a new thread, they can simply create a rolling thread which will last for as long as it's bumped.
Discussions in /vg/ generals typically last fairly long depending on the game, and usually act as a chatroom type discussion about a topic, so there really isn't much lost in favor of the new rolling threads on there besides the "X Edition" and "Xth for Y" memes.
Right now /r/ is pretty much shit and nobody uses it for anything other than "who is this naked woman" and "can you please photoshop boobs on my facebook friend" and that kind of thing. This is a problem because, for instance, people are frequently told that /r/ is the proper venue for certain kinds of posts (such as recommendation threads on /a/).
If you look at /r/ right now and sort it by "number of replies" you see that there are only six threads that have more than ten replies. This kind of clutter isn't really necessary and defeats the purpose of /r/.
My suggestion: Make single, recurring threads for the most common post topics. Make a single "photoshop request thread" that can be sustained, which will probably have better results because the people who are actually contributing photoshops will only have to go in a single place. Make a single "porn identification thread" and use that for all the posts asking "moar of her?" Then you will have the whole rest of the board completely free of clutter which will allow other "request" threads to spend more time visible on the board, and therefore increase the quality of answers.
Why don't we have a crossdressing/josou board? 2chan has one, and every time a new 4chan clone site pops up, one of the first boards added is always a trap/crossdressing board. Clearly, this is something they felt was missing from 4chan, so why don't we have one yet?
