/a/ - the perfect blend of topical discussion and "board culture," with active threads talking about any show you could want to discuss. A community that cares about the quality of its content, is well-moderated, and where it's easy to find like-minded people with whom to discuss things you like. /a/ has some of the comfiest threads on all of 4chan and lacks the vitriol of the other boards.
/vg/ - encyclopedic video game discussion with a bunch of active mini-communities, and easily the best place to discuss new and popular video games. Thread OPs that are well-maintained by the community and have links to relevant news, fixes, mods, fan-made content, and FAQs. The generals themselves are frequently mentioned outside of 4chan as content-creators and leading fan communities.
/w/ and /wg/ - well-organized, frequently tasteful, stylish and interesting wallpapers that are created by a talented community. Welcoming to outsiders and diplomatic. Requests are encouraged but also limited to specific threads, and requests are frequently filled by helpful members of the community. The overall quality of wallpapers on these boards makes it arguably the best wallpaper resource on the internet, particularly for anime wallpapers, and especially with the real-time ability to ask for specific things or specific topics and have other anons post from their personal repositories.
/co/ - One of the most chill communities on the internet. Start a thread about any comic or cartoon you'd like to discuss and the community will engage with you eagerly. I hardly watch any cartoons and I don't read comics, but every time I've gone to /co/ I've been amazed at how nice and knowledgeable everyone is.
/tg/ - The best people on 4chan. I think the high average age is one of the things that makes it such a high-quality board. But also the fact that they actually play games with each other on the board, like recurring CYOA threads. You could spend a whole day on /tg/.
