now you get shat on for posting 4chan memes.
Old memes used to be cherished. They stopped being used, but nobody hated them. When you posted something old you were a "gentleman and a scholar" (remember when that phrase wasn't reddit and cringy?)
But now, let this thread be witness, there's a dark age post-2009, where every new meme becomes hated after a while, because it becomes popular somewhere else.
For a long while we couldn't even say "memes" unironically, so tainted had the word become, so people jokingly said "mee-mee" or "may-may". It started as parody, but I caould tell some people just wanted to say a plain old "I love this meme", but had to mask it in irony.
I only browse 4chan, and have never been told to fuck off elsewhere before 2012. Now it's not done because of obvious internet mannerisms, but just for holding certain opinions, liking shows, or just making an outdated joke that I was not aware it was blooming in Reddit. If I only use 4chan, how am I supposed to know the "meme had been captured"?
This is very stupid, people seem on edge, and some idiots like me get stuck in the cross-fire. Before, when you could accurately call out where someone was from, they would shut up, and possibly lurk more. Now, as most attampts are wrong, it only spawns a chain of name-calling and smug anime faces.
Also, remember the old go-to insults? help me put dates on this, or expand:
faggot --> retard --> austist --> cuck
