/b/ , /d/ , /co/ , /k/ , /mu/ etc... you name it , I don't think you can call /mlp/ 'new' because most of the posters were involved with MLP for 4-5 years and they were involved with 4chan for even a longer period of time.
/mlp/ was one of the few boards that went through 'the cycle' of any board withing months as opposed to years because it already had an established culture , for example MLPG (the general thread for the show) existed since October 2010 and that general is still relevant on /mlp/.
