Honestly when you look back at the history you see a lot of parallels and where things diverge. 4chan was created during the late 90s early 00s anime boom, and /v/ was created early on in the middle of the PS2/Xbox era. Then the two mediums went different ways. Anime got less popular both in the west and as a whole, while mainstream media latched onto videogames and made the medium generally shit and popular.
/v/ is bad purely because of its size, and measures taken to reduce its size would reinvigorate it.
