This honestly. Ads used to spam some of the faster boards even AFTER captcha was implemented (I remember a string of porn site ad spams on /b/ and I think /s/ back in '12). Spammers would love to get their shit on high traffic boards, and 24hr captcha would surely lead to some Hawaiian levels of spam.

A thread on /a/ yesterday actually got hit hard by that. Granted it was probably an imitator but it was somewhat nostalgic. Then the nostalgia wore off and I was reminded of horrible times.
