webms have lower file size, better resolution, better animation speed and they have sound support. They're objectively superior to gifs.

gif is the superior format for
- images with few colors
- mspaint drawings and text
- small or simple animations

webm for everything else

Unfortunately tumblr has tainted gif's reputation with filtered low-quality gifs that fill up /gif/ and other places.

Gifs. I don't know why, but I just don't like webms. I never open them. Isn't this an imageboard afterall?

Also, Gifs load faster for me.
