why do you doubt that the description above the image refers to the image? i think the picture says exactly what they are.

these machines are simple mini-PCs (Atom CPU inside)

they are not harddrives, although they have some storage in them
and the other storage (for data) is the usb stick connected into them

that guy is running ClusterFuzz on them to distributed brute-force search for bugs in web browsers:

btw, they have only 1 dual core cpu each
'8x' in the picture means there are 8 of them
not obvious at first glance

so pretty much they are just mid-end mini-PCs
consuming less energy
good for computations or torrenting or server host, etc.
