Should I stand up against my dad, /r9k/?

He isn't a bad person, and he saved our family at one point, I respect him for what he has done, and appreciate for keeping my pathetic NEET ass under a roof.

The issue is just mainly anger related. My mother hates his as a result, regrets the marriage but nothing can be done, she's killing herself with pills and cigs.

Any time something contradicting his view is stated he will shout, he will explain repeatedly while shouting how things should be done "properly". I cannot talk to the man about anything, and whatever subjects come up even if it's not about debating he'll find a way to be dismissive, arrogant and rude, again explaining how his way is the best way.

I'm an adult and have ignored this shit because I see what he has done for us, but I also believe this don't give him an excuse. No one should have a free pass to be like this, and our silence only encourages him I feel. He should see how he's affecting other people.

What do I do? Before I either leave the house or kill myself I feel I should deal with this, if not for me then for my mother, she's depressed at this point, really wasting away, I hate seeing her like this, she suffered through so much and has to be trapped with this piece of shit attitude. I want to see her happy.
