They arent that selective or that prestigious, outside of the paratroopers stationed in Corsica. People with no prior military training get in just fine, given that they're in shape.
the real selection is all mental. The FFL is essentially a welfare program for complete and total fuckups, its not a third world batallion like some think it is, and its not a super elite group like others get fooled into thinking.
If he is American with some money to burn, can take orders like a dog and do the basic physical requirements to get him through the first few weeks, he'll sign a contract and be in for five years just fine.
