How basic are we talking? If it's college plenty of people struggle because the topic doesn't interest them so they never bother actually properly studying.

If it's basic as in junior high shit it's impossible for you to be a semi-functional adult and not be intelligent enough to do it. Shouldn't take you more than a few days of studying for a few minutes to get back to speed.

Arithmetic is literally just number-crunching though. Calculators exist for that. Mental calculation may to some degree be a sign of intelligence, but plenty of mathematicians and such completely suck at arithmetic because they don't have any need to be good at it.

I guess a decade of neetdom comes with some neurodegenerative effects. I used to have a measured IQ of about 120-130. Today I estimate it's probably dropped by about 30 points.

This is probably true. The worst thing is I never really learned to study when I was young because it came so naturally to me. I've never had to stare at a problem for an hour without figuring out the solution, and now that I have to I realize what I had was a god damn superpower. Now I have to think manually.
