>>23866188>I'm still scared of firearms (pointed in my directionsYou have every right to be afraid of that. You should absolutely never point a firearm at anything you do not intend to destroy, even if you are 100% certain it is unloaded. In fact, you should treat every firearm as if it were loaded. These are two of the fundamental tenants of gun safety, and if someone violates them within your presence, you have every right to be fearful. You should do your best to learn the rules of gun safety before handling them.
>or held by anyone near meAfter you fire one for yourself and become familiar with it, this will go away. A lot of people that do not have experience with firearms tend to sort of mystify them, which makes them especially fearful of them. Once you actually spend some time with one, you'll realize how unfounded this mystification was.
Also, if I may recommend a firearm for your first time shooting, you should try to find a firearm chambered in .22LR (ideally a rifle). This is the classic, oft-recommended starting caliber for learning the fundamentals of shooting. It's low recoil, fun, and cheap (though not as cheap as it used to be, unfortunately). The firearms themselves are generally quite cheap as well. A Marlin 60 or a 10/22 are great beginner firearms.
I'm not sure if it's still updated, but there's a wiki on /k/ that has some good info. You could probably make a thread and ask about it, too.
