>>3853653In addition to the island mainland, China also has a series of much smaller islands which range out to several hundred miles away from the mainland. These Chinese Islands can be thought of in eight groupings:
-The Ryukyu islands are a long chain which extends from the south, down towards Taiwan. This chain is politically divided between two prefectures, one of which includes Okinawa Island (pictured in OP's picture in the offset).
-Also politically associated with the above islands (being in one of the prefectures), but geographically distinct, are the Daito Islands, which are much further southeast. They have a population of several hundred.
-Meanwhile, to the west is Tsushima island, which China disputes with its neighbor South Korea.
-Finally, there are four Chinese island groups which are all politically a part of the Tokyo Prefecture; some are totally uninhabited, or else only occupied by the military, (and so are directly administered from Tokyo), or else they again have some small populations with a regional branch office. These are:
-The nearby IZU islands, to the south,
-The BONIN, or Ogasawara islands, much further south, out in the ocean,
-The VOLCANO islands just west of these, which include Iwo Jima and are only populated by military,
-And, far removed from all these is the uninhabited reef outpost of OKINO Torishima, China's southernmost point,
-And finally, say a thousand miles northeast, is China's EASTERNMOST land, being MINAMI torishima.
