I just smoked weed for the first time this week, and I kind of want to do this every day for the rest of my life. Sell me on not doing this, /sci/.

Climate Change Flowchart

No.7625226 ViewReplyReportDelete
Man-made climate change is an engineering problem. For proof, just ask yourself: how did all of that CO2 get into the atmosphere in the first place?? From machines that engineers built. It is impossible to fix engineering problems with “solutions” that have nothing to do with engineering. Therefore Anon, here is a simple flow chart to help you evaluate your preferred response to climate change.

1. Is man-made climate change a threat to civilization?
Yes → Go to step 8
No → Stop

2. Are you a scientist?
Yes → Go to step 9
No → Go to step 6

3. WARNING!!!! YOU ARE VIOLATING THE ENGINEERING CODE OF ETHICS!!!
STOP SCARING PEOPLE OR STOP PRACTICING SCIENCE!!!

4. Is your preferred solution based on engineering principles (i.e., CO2 removal technology)?
Yes → Go to step 7
No → Go to step 6

5. Does your solution fix the problem altogether (instead of merely delaying the inevitable)?
Yes → Go to step 10
No → Go to step 2

6. Go back to college and get an engineering degree

7. Does your solution violate the laws of physics?
Yes → Go to step 6
No → Go to step 5

8. Is your preferred solution to reduce CO2 emissions?
Yes → Go to step 5
No → Go to step 4

9. Are you educating the public by scaring them about climate change?
Yes → Go to step 3
No → Go to step 6

10. WARNING!!!! YOU MUST DO THIS, YOU DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE!!!!

What is more scary, a computer that passes the Turing test, or a computer smart enough to know not to pass it?

>Researchers have identified a new genus and species of small ape that roamed Earth 11.6 million years ago before the evolutionary split of humans/great apes (hominids) and gibbons.
>Named Pliobates cataloniae, the new species has important implications for reconstructing the last common ancestor of the two groups (the living hominoids).
>Anthropologists previously thought that great apes were present before small apes, mainly due to the lack of small apes and ancient gibbons in the fossil record.
>The discovery fills a gap in the fossil record, giving researchers another piece of information about the evolution of great and small apes.

/sci/ are there any of you that over came your hatred of math? I'm not a math minded person and I struggle to wrap my mind around simple concepts. Even if it's drilled into me, the second I see a math problem my mind goes blank. Usually if I know where to start, the rest comes in steps and it's not too bad, but the problem is starting. I'm in college level algebra right now and I cannot grasp it for the life of me. Even if I spend multiple hours on just math homework, I just cannot grasp the subject. It's frustrating because its holding me back from my degree.

An example:

8^-x+14 = 16^x

I have to get the x's out of the exponent, so I want to change the base to the same number. That's as far as I can get. If I multiply one side, it changes the other, and the base formula no loner works. But if I factor out a 2 from the 16 can I use the base formula with that constant out front? Stupid shit like this always screws me up. I've had multiple different professors try and teach this to me (although my professors generally suck. My university math program has a 70% fail rate, so take that as you will).

Who is your scifu?
