Cortisol just doesn't do that much damage. Your adrenal gland isn't big enough to pump enough Cortisol to damage the cardiovascular or digestive system even in a decade of healthy yet stressful life. Emphasis on healthy. Once you slide down the slope to obesity, a healthy lifestyle becomes increasingly less comfortable and so more difficult. Where I think you're getting this notion that stress causes obesity is a misinterpretation of the stress caused BY obesity. Which domino effects and makes you not care for a healthy life and you blame all of your weight on the shitty mood you kept yourself in for too long without acting on it.
