Space X is much better than NASA. TRUST ME. NASA is being gutted because of religious whackjobs in Congress. So what they can do is very limited. Obama is your friend in this case. Space X or Virgin Galactic should be your choice for now. You'll learn cutting edge experience. If you want to work for NASA after five years in industry than you should work for NASA. Or the NSA.

SpaceX is all fun and games until you actually fucking intern there. It's not the hours or the pay, it's the people. They're not at the level of education, intelligence people think everyone at spacex has. On top of being treated like dirt, being surrounded by AAbabbies, dumb whores who I can't bully and smelly immigrants got to me after the first month.

I love what spacex is doing. I love the company. I won't work there because it's not the ceiling of where level of interest in the space industry and drive can take me. NASA will be around long after I'm dead, and I want to build my life and career in what I know will stay the #1 hub for human space exploration.

to add, the only people I respect are those that are hard working and those that are intelligent AND passionate. I've visited several nasa facilities and the people I've met have been inspirational. From astronauts to the capcom guys to the planetary science research guys, they've all been great inspirations to get myself to that level of accomplishment.

That's life, kiddo. Most places are filled with AAbabbies. Especially the big three defense contractors. The highly intelligent folk you're talking about only exist at your University. The world is filled with idiots. The average IQ is 100. Now think about that, because there is a huge portion of the population below that number. You need a PhD to work at NASA. You can do it with a BS, but you need a good resume. Try finding a job you can do and see if you'll like it. Also NASA is a government entity, and trust me the government could care less where you got your masters. As long its accredited. This is another hting. No one cares about ranking of unis outside teh elite firms. These firms are filled with the same type of people you saw at space X. Your best bet is to learn a trade in engineering and starting your own company in the future. This is your endgoal. You want to do the things you want. You have the boss mentality.

How have you not been able to get hired by NASA yet? I worked there after my freshman year and I go to a less prestigious school than Caltech. And I am currently working my ass off to try to get an internship with SpaceX, lol. We should trade lives.

Thanks, I think that's a compliment. I'm not so much motivated by money or success, so I don't think I'd ever start a company. I'm pretty dead set on working on the frontier of human space exploration, and actually plan to apply for european and american astronaut corps after I finish my masters (dual citizen)

I just want to be surrounded and learn from exceptional people

If you want to push the frontier of science then that's DARPA. Literally hte US military. Those guys are on the fringe. Or CERN. But if you want to join the astronaut corps then engineering/physics/bio/medical is your best bet. But if you start your own company then you can decide what projects you fund as the boss. Its not the money, but the power you have to decide on things to research. This is important in science.

Seems accomplished. You can do it. Just get a PhD in whatever engineering field oyu want. Then apply for medical school. Its easier to get into medical school with a career in science. This dwarfs the grade whores from the Ivys.

He knows two. Three other languages he has basic understanding. I speak two, but I have basic understanding of Mandarin and Russian. Also you can be a pilot. Just go to flight school. Its easier to get into med school as a accomplished scientist in your 30s. That alone will guaranteed admission.
Also remember Sin, Cos, Tan, Arctan etc for derivatives in calc.

They have projects on space science. Try Lockheed, or Boeing. They love to recruit from Caltech. Especially Lockheed. But try to get a masters from USC/UCLA. They have good astro engineering programs. NASA is pushing for the manned mission to MARS but you need to get a masters in engineering. It helps. PhD is for academia. I wish I pay attention in school otherwise I wouldn't be dumb in math. I can't simple proofs because I never learn proofs. I guess I have to do it on my own.

How many people stop at an engineering degree? How many go on to get a fucking astrophysics phd at a top 5 school after getting a completely unrelated degree? How many go on to fly commercial airliners after that? And then on to medical school to become a doctor?

like fuck, I just feel like I need to choose somewhere to go and make it happen. I've been pretty set on nasa for the past few years, and spacex was a highschool dream that I've now achieved and abandoned for better things

I want to be the first human on mars, and I'm willing to work harder than anybody else on this planet for it

is that too much to ask

also, I've considered lockheed and boeing but it's still commercial space industry. I'd be making a gamble on these defense contractors choosing to get involved in exploration missions which is just not likely. NASA is the best bet, in my opinion.

I think they'll be good for intermediate experience, though.
