So that's what f(x) approaches as x approaches infinity.
Dunno the context but that seems like a really round-qbout way to write that.

It's because when you square root something the answer can be the positive or negative version of that number
example:
4^2 = 16
(-4)^2 = 16
therefore sqrt(16) = 4 & -4

a function only gives one solution per given input.
the squareroot function of x is defined as the >positive< solution z of z^2-x = 0
