i always hear computer science is dependant on the course a uni offers, that they often can be shit
i'm considering studying compsci and would like to know how good the course monash offers is

The thing about CS is it's a branch of applied logic much older than any programming language. In the 90's there started being a huge demand for programmers and employers just assumed CS graduate = skilled programmer. Many CS departments went with the trend and turned themselves into codemonkey training camps, but others didn't and will have their students spending much more time with theory and pure logic than learning SQL, C++, Python, etc.
