>>7616529>http://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/seminars/Article_Campus_Racial_Climate_for_Latinos.pdfWhat a legit terrible paper.
Like, I'm not saying that as some anti-sjw troll, the paper is actually bad. It has no hypothesis to confirm or reject, and the conclusion is:
>Utilizing a CRT framework, we have demonstrated that Latinas/os at three selective universities are navigating a negative, and even hostile, campus racial climate in which they endure incessant covert, yet shocking, racial assaults. OK. That sounds true. That sounds completely likely. Is it more, or less, than black students? White students? Is the experience of these latin(a/o)s representative? Is it significant? Because that's fucking relevant. "Some people are sometimes mean to each other" is not a fucking article, people!
They cite "William Smith (2009) recognizes that" without a fucking word that WS2009 was studying black, not latin(a/o) students, who have a very different experience with racism. Additionally:
>Pierce (1970) expressed hope that “every black child will recognize and defend promptly and adequately against every offensive micro-aggression. In this way, the toll that is registered after accumulation of such insults should be markedly reduced” (p. 280). As Chicana/o and African American educators, we share this hope and express it anew for Latina/o university students.Sure, but Pierce wrote in the 1970's, the clue being in the fucking cite. Things have changed. Is there still a problem? I don't know, and this paper gives me no confidence that the authors know, either.
In short: The whole paper can be summed up as "If you ask people whether they sometimes get treated badly based on their unique characteristica, they answer 'yes' and that makes us sad." Get out.
