I'm a huge fuckin idiot who will go to great lengths to feel/seem smart, but then I realized I should learn shit. How did you guys get so smart? Does /sci/ have any suggestions or resources on how to get really good at math really fast?

my advice is is to teach yourself to be honest with yourself. you're a fucking loser, you're not smart, and it doesn't matter if the people that surround you think you're smart, because they barely even know you.

get a job, get a hobby, get a gym membership, get some self-worth, and get some friends. it'll make you a better person. if you're still interested in maths/sciences, just read the sticky, or take some classes at uni.

since I started my degree my IQ rose 20 points (could be 30, but that was the second time I took the test in a short period of time, so it does not count) The way you think, can make you a faster learner and you can train that.

You can't make miracles, but you can learn how to use your head to the limits of your capability.

My 1st year was just physics, math and programming. Choose one and have had it.

Being smart is an ongoing thing or it is an irregular occurance that needs promoting. If you seem/feel smart then you have displayed a potential to promote the possibility of "a smart person is you". Thing is, if you are smart, you are constantly providing "smart" things or saying "smart" things. y = mx + b is not the line you draw with your hand. The line you draw with your hand is developed in your head. You then use your ability to draw it on paper. What happens then is that someone else can come over to your line and draw a grid over it on a some sort of clear sheet that they can then use to determine what kind of a line it is you drew and then from there possibly come up with a method and manner to drawing the same line.

So, it you can use variables in 2 dimensions to account for a line, then maybe you can use variables in 2 dimensions to account for 2 lines that share a point. You can use variables in 3 dimensions to account for that same line as it possibly describes a piece of paper in the apparent depth provided by the 3rd dimension. You could use variables in 4 dimensions and provide a sense of potential to the line/paper by measuring any apparent notions available to the line/paper. Does that make some sense? Of course it gets a little more complicated than I've stated here BUT you never really deal with anything as a whole. If you were trying to describe the mass of the area, you would use the sides of the "mass/area" as indicative of potential in the form of lines and curves which could then be used as the terms, line and curve, to describe the area as it relates to the line. You could then surmise an outside force and the scope of it by relating the sensitivity of the apparent motions as they relate to the surrounding environment, whether the environment be explicit or not.

No idea. I'm usually very engorged int he activity then it just ends. Recent en devours were reverse engineering and soccer. I think it's just a lack of self control that causes me to over sensitize my self in a subject to the point I'm sick of it.

This is how things are for me at least. I was learning programming and having a lot of fun with it until I realized that I won't get hired until I graduate, that I'll get hired after graduation whether I do it a lot or not, that the few people that do talk about programming very openly tend to be old pendants or dumb autists whereby I only get into a conversation about the tradition as the rigor or the verbatim proof of the code as tantamount to the subject and/or concept.

I still use it a lot, as in I deputize situation and apparent logic into a generic system that I mentally adapt to the situation. This makes it easy to "predict" outcomes and other equally stupid deviations from the some more common outcomes. It's a fun way to expand one's mind but for the most part makes it even more difficult to start new projects because of the whole explicit accounting of variable into a new abstraction on a platform separate from myself.

Once he sees how much there is and how "quickly" he can learn it all compared to how much time it has taken to develop, it will essentially be getting really good really fast so he can seem smart. That or he'll give up and you'll have gotten your wish. So why not, instead, aid him in his quest?
