So I have a question for everyone who had some physics related post secondary education.

I'm in grade 12 and honestly don't have a brain for physics (84% in grade 11, probably 86%ish in grade 12) yet I badly would like to be an engineer (civil or mechanical).

I'm aware that about 3/4th the people usually quit at some point through uni, do you think I stand a chance? Share some stories of your own

shut the fuck about having no brain shit. once you get into higher level education it all depends on hard work and if you have passion for your subject. When you are doing research you are going to be reading papers. you dont need to be smart to be doing that. you just need to work hard.

There will be some people who are smarter than you, and they will read and understand papers faster, but the thing is that most of them are not hard workers. with enough efforts you can become smarter than them.

OP here, the dropout rates were astounding but I do have a passion and appreciation for maths and sciences, I assumed that those who passed were geniuses.

Also the first year of uni is gonna be hard if you are not smart, the key to doing good in uni is your work habits. work on that.

if you really want to be an engineer, just try it. it's not like you have anything to lose.

shit me and a friend took remedial math together back in middle school. he even got held back a grade.

motherfucker ended up becoming a petroleum, and im on my way to becoming an electrical engineer.

if you acknowledge the possibility then you can work towards it. if you just make excuses for yourself or tell yourself that you can't, then it really is impossible.

i am a first year and i was in the same situtation as you. As long as you are confident in the material you are studying is correct and you can memorize the content and use the content to answer questions than you are good to go for an easy pass in university at least.

2nd year, completed my 7 hour lab session today with my useless lab partner. Got 4 deadlines for next week and even though the exams are 12 weeks ago I'm already nervous, such is life

This. OP, if you have a passion for it, you'll be fine. Civil is actually one of the easier engineering according to most.

I'm like this guy too. I was barely passing throughout middle and high school, was a dumb jock, BARELY even graduated HS on time because I almost flunked basic chemistry. Hell, I even took a class called "Study Skills" with kids who had down syndrome, anger management, (beans and nig bogs basically, etc.)

I went to college, did the same crap there for about a semester and then eventually got motivated and switched to Petroleum. After I got motivated and had a passion for it, I was at the top of the class.

So don't let get intimidated by it, if you truly enjoy it and don't mind studying a lot that's really all you need.

i had a 3.6 UC weighted highschool gpa (C to B average overall in maths, A's in sciences) but now im doing applied maths and electrical engineering at a school in california with an A average. also i maintain a social life and sleep decently.

you may find that college is easier to do well in than highschool. after being influenced by TAs and professors, ive decided to go for a PhD in applied math. you can do it anons, you just have to put the hours in and balance your schedule.

Civil you will be fine. At my school you only have to take calc 1 and i think physics 1 for civil. I'd advise taking those kinds of classes at a community college and transferring if you're worried about them because usually and CC they aren't trying to fuck you as hard as possible. Mechanical is going to be quite a bit harder.

1st year B.S.M.E. here, always pulled shit math/physics grades in high school (talking C averages), yet somehow passed my Calc/Physics C AP tests and working my ass off in statics and calc III, 2/3 of way through semester and I've got straight As for the first time since middle school. I've always been the smart lazy type and with these kind of subjects you really can't BS your way through it. Also knew a girl in AP physics C who scored 5 on both tests with a 1520 on her SAT. You've got to want it more than anything. Intelligence and learning ability is secondary. Try your damn hardest and you'll most likely make it. It just won't be easy.
