/sci/ are there any of you that over came your hatred of math? I'm not a math minded person and I struggle to wrap my mind around simple concepts. Even if it's drilled into me, the second I see a math problem my mind goes blank. Usually if I know where to start, the rest comes in steps and it's not too bad, but the problem is starting. I'm in college level algebra right now and I cannot grasp it for the life of me. Even if I spend multiple hours on just math homework, I just cannot grasp the subject. It's frustrating because its holding me back from my degree.
An example:
8^-x+14 = 16^x
I have to get the x's out of the exponent, so I want to change the base to the same number. That's as far as I can get. If I multiply one side, it changes the other, and the base formula no loner works. But if I factor out a 2 from the 16 can I use the base formula with that constant out front? Stupid shit like this always screws me up. I've had multiple different professors try and teach this to me (although my professors generally suck. My university math program has a 70% fail rate, so take that as you will).
