k could be any real number m8
maybe try setting it equal to 24 for some nice symmetry

Usually we do D=b2 - 4ac
and then x= -b - √D /2a
Here D = x2 - 576, what to do next?

Okay, so you need to find roots?
If yes than $D = k^2 - 576$
Roots exisct if $D \geqslant 0$ , so $k \geqslant 24$
And roots:
$x_{1,2} = \frac{-k \pm \sqrt{D}}{2}$
