Fuck me, tough decision time on my MM lads.
Currently 3 points clear at the top of League 1 with Sheffield United.
January window just opened and I get two emails. One from Billy Sharp accepting a new contract, and the other a bid from an Italian team of £1.5m for him.
Now because he has 3 years left on his contract I reckon I might sneak £1.75m, possibly even £2m for him which for a 29 year old with an overall of 68 and no traits is a good bit of business. I should probably snap their hands off at £1.5m really as it's nearly double his value.
Trouble is, my best midfielder, Woolford is out for 5 months. Got a gay as fuck scripted training injury on him right when all this kicked off. Also, I have six or seven players with contracts running out this season. Managed to get contracts on one or two I really want to stay like Baxter and Long, but there's a few I'm unsure of and some deadwood too, so realistically I'm letting four or five players go or selling them now.
Basically, my dilemma is if I sell Sharp for what is basically money for old rope, might I Jew myself out because it will stretch my squad to it's limits? He is my best striker with 13 in the league this season and I have no-one I could replace him with, I'd have to get someone in. But then again I need some midfield cover because of Woolford and I also need to sort out the four or five missing gaps from released players.
My question is if I sell Sharp, can I build a decent portion of a Championship level squad (Because I'll be Championship next season for sure) on roughly £3.5 Million? Roughly £2m of that needs to be reinvested in a decent striker to lead my line and all of the suggestions I find on the web are clearly for people using Chelsea/City etc spending £7m on young players with 60something overalls.
Or should I keep him, spurn the money, and keep it simple? Get a loan or two in and wait for the summer?
