In the premier league you usually need at least 40 points to safely stay up so you definitely can't risk not winning games. Of course when you come up against a big club a point is good but really you need to be beating the teams around you in the table.
Crystal Palace, Southampton and Swansea are good recent examples of teams coming up and earning their safety in the premier league, it's not just enough to say "oh let's just see if we can stay up for a season and see what happens", you really need to have a long term plan. The Championship is objectively a much tougher league than the Premier League because you get fuck all money and all your good players will leave the second a premier league team wants them.
