>>63176779>>Euros: "but real fans would stick with the team even in the lower leagues!"This is also horseshit. Euros, mostly Brits, always talk about their "hardcore fan support" no matter what, even if it means rooting for that team when they're relegated to a lower tier.
Fact is, the Football League Championship gets terrible attendance relative to the EPL. Not one team averaged over 90% capacity, with many teams below the 50% mark.
A team/second tier league would not survive in the US very long with those attendance numbers.
Furthermore, we have something called land here in the United States. Many soccer teams in England are within walking/short train ride away distance, so even if your favorite team gets relegated, it's not too much of hassle on your time or wallet to attend a game.
In the US, a person from New Mexico isn't going to travel 10 hours to go watch the Cowboys shit it up in the tier 2 league. Or a person from Bakersfield isn't going to travel to San Diego to watch the Chargers do the same.
And then if the tier 2 team were to get good, guess what happens? A rich tier 1 team(s) would poach all their good players.
"But they would be under contract!"
No promising athlete and his agent would be stupid enough to commit to anything more than a 2 year deal with a tier 2 team.
This shit would not work in the US, in any of the leagues. Logistics don't work out.
