Lets assume that the Love Spell is infact a "Worse than Date Rape" drug. Could it be used for "good" in a fantasy setting?
Let's get some hypothetical examples.
1. Two Empires have been at war. Empire A and Empire B deside to end the war and have marriage ties for peace. Problem: one of the parties to be married is not interested in other party or even sexually attracted to them or maybe even uninterested entirely. This has been a war that has costs Countless lives and lasted for 120 years. To love potion or to not love potion?
Example 2) Person (Person A) with really fucked up sexual fetish is not sexually attracted to the only other being who has said fetish in their breeding group (person b)- as a result that person has gone on a destructive rampage, but due to the weakness of the nearby village and lack of adventurers, a love potion might be the only viable option.
Example 3) The Queen of country X has fallen out of love with the king and has taken dozens of paramours. This has driven the king to grief and he now takes the council of a nefarious regent who has eyes on the throne and wants to drive the kingdom to war, if the king and queen where together again, the king might not listen to the the regent.
I can do scenarios like this for days.
