Give me some advice guys. One of my players has made a political character based around persuasion and inspire. He really wants to get to use his skills, but my games tend to end up like pic related. I have no idea how to handle highly social characters. Even more so when he has an insane dice pool for persuading others.

I'm thinking of including a session where they have to locate and get a macguffin off a Daeva. It'd be a good chance to him to shine, but I have no idea how to build such a session. Thoughts?

Most people don't care. It still has balance problems and Heroes aren't as bad even if they still aren't great. The fluff is a bit better now as well.

Every time I try to open this Beast book, it turns into water and leaks put into my keyboard. It sparks and smokes, but nothing else happens. All that is left on my screen is a cheap scan of Changeling the Dreaming.

This is my only experience with Beast.

They completely killed everything that people hated. And at the same time killed everything that made it unique and "not awful".

SJW: The Triggering was bad, but at least it had personality. Beast as released is generic and non-confrontational in the extreme and just seems completely superfluous.

It's slightly less dumb, but still has the Geist problem of "why do I care about doing anything?"

Some of the setting stuff is nice, but again there's no real incentive to do anything and most of it is just neat window dressing on a window that overlooks the side of another building. I mean, I want it, because I want a corebook of everything, but it's not very high on my list. I do plan to try and read over the final product again and see if my opinion changes, but for the most part...

I do want to make a character out of Nana Natsu, though. I've been thinking about Lineage aspects for her. I may go with a new Lineage instead of treating her as Extempore, though.

Here's the rub: There are two versions of the World of Darkness, and they're very different. If you like the gothic horror atmosphere and gameplay, go with nWoD and get Vampire: The Requiem second Edition. If you like the metaplot and the worldbuilding, go with Vampire: the Masquerade 20th Anniversary Edition.

That said, many people will tell you (myself included) that overall Requiem 2e is the much better choice, especially in terms of mechanics.

But, if you really want to be smart about it, pirate both and buy it when you can if you like it (and do buy it if you can, show Onyx Path support, the licenses they're working on were just bought up by a new company and people should show that new company that they like what Onyx Path has been doing).

The revisions came and went and they're kind of lackluster. They address the fact that Beasts came off as queer serial killers or school shooters using the "bullies must die" argument, and a bit of the "Beasts are insufferable" stuff, but ultimately like I said above it's still got a focus problem, in that there isn't really one. "Be spooky and teach lessons, maybe, I guess. Talk to other spooky people!" is as close as it comes to a purpose.

There are other books you could look at for extra content, but V20 is very comprehensive. If you are playing the game in the real world, you will need several 10 sided dice.

Like I said, the main issue of Beast is the lack of direction. The current version doesn't seem "generic and non-confrontational", it seems like a good game with no focus. Also the mechanical issues are still there in the form of power imbalance, as far as I'm aware, but that was always going to be there. BlackHatMatt doesn't believe in game balance, and he also doesn't seem to understand that "balance" also means "provides interesting opportunities", and his lack of balance tends to mean "fucks everything up and solves problems far too easily".

But again, the main issue is that there's no focus. "Have tea with the vampires and ask the Werewolves about Spirits, then go scare someone off booze" is about as much focus as there gets, and that's not really the kind of thing you can make a detailed and interesting chronicle about. There's no factions to get caught between or problems to solve. Even the example settings are all a list of things to investigate and meet, as opposed to any real chronicle focuses.

Beast feels like the best way to play it--but not necessarily the intended way--is to do something new each session. Monster of the Week where instead of killing or destroying the monster you go on a date and then do the same thing next week.

Yeah, it feels super tacked on, but it's better than not having it, to be honest. I'd expand it to involve... NOT terrifying people to somehow teach them that things are bad. even in the example section there doesn't really seem to be a cause and effect correlation between the Lessons.

How do you make combat more interesting in Hunter? Ran a bit of a test session with a bud and it was... basically not super good. Not that RPG combat is necessarily the best thing ever in general if you don't put in the effort and everyone does as well, but it doesn't feel that great mechanically is all.

And ya I'm pretty new.

Note that V20 is not very newbie-friendly in presentation. It was originally conceived as a nostalgia omnibus "everything you loved in one book, also updated to 2012" book for people who loved Masquerade back in the day.

That being said, I've never played VtM but I was able to make sense of V20, so it's doable. It just takes a bit of work to get your head around, because it's not intended as an introductory work.

Dave's only comment in this thread was noting that the new Lead Storyteller was the model for Dracula in V20. I don't believe he's said anything about the effect of the Paradox acquisition of WW on Mage 2e here or elsewhere, probably because he knows little more than anyone else.

However, I agree that we'll likely see Mage 2e released eventually, although it could be quite a while and substantially revised due to Paradox's editorial and creative requirements. I obviously would much prefer it be released much sooner and as currently written.

Paradox won't have anything to do with it. It's too early for them to make changes, and the CCP contracts are still valid. There is nothing to worry about for the books currently on the schedule. Unless Paradox paid for the severance fees of EVERY contract and then wrote up new ones, nothing will change for Mage 2e

We have absolutely no idea when the CCP contract to license the WW IP to OPP expires, or any of its terms, particularly relating to ultimate editorial and creative control of any releases. Recall that each and every WW product released by OPP needed prior CCP approval.

Paradox currently may have a great deal of control over any WW release by OPP, either as the direct successor to CCP under the contract or because the contract has or will soon expire (and will be cancelled or negotiated).

Of course, that doesn't mean Paradox actually intends to review, alter, delay or cancel any OPP product in the pipeline. That's precisely why I inquired if Dave might have been given assurances that Mage 2e will still soon be released as currently written.

The thing is, Paradox is a Vidya publisher. I don't think they're at all used to doing this kinda super schmoozy two-way feedback thing since projects in their main area of interest are just too huge for that.

Although I have no idea if OPP knows anything yet or if they've discussed anything with Dave, any reassurances that a second edition of a well-liked, highly anticipated and imminent release such as Mage 2e, is exactly the type of information you want to release ASAP to calm a jittery fanbase.

Further, there's every reason why Paradox might want to immediately meddle with Mage 2e. If they have a specific plan for the nWOD, including its possible cancellation, they would want to at least delay the release of a new corebook that might contradict their overall vision before it created confusion or potential contradictions, at least until they had a while to review it in-house.

It's too early to do any of that. The ink on the contract only went dry on Monday. We don't even know when the official transfer of IP even begins or if it has already occured. There can't be an ASAP for legal and public relations reasons.

If they wanted to meddle, they would have done it already. Right now, all we know is that Paradox is in talks with By Night Studios to negotiate the LARP rights, and that we'll hear about what might happen with Onyx Path "soon". That's all we're going to get from anyone until OPP and Paradox make an official statement. Remember, not even the dev knew until yesterday, save for Rose.

We're just going to have to hope for the best until we learn more.

It turns out this is the sixth time in mage history that a global purge of the order has been needed

Also, now I want to create a (trans)humanist cyborg legacy as a counterpoint to the Austere, because I have a loathing for the whole "cybernetics are ebil" thing and steamerpunk in general.

She's essentially a program, not a person. I'd go with the "Oil" of the Unfleshed, but really that doesn't even work for most "hypertech" Unfleshed to begin with. That means she's very if-then in her actions, and prone to getting confused.
She's also both informative and flighty.

As a being of pure information, knowledge and especially digital information is what sustains her. It isn't just useful 'factual' information, though, and includes things like entertainment. She gets a point of Pyros for sleeping surrounded by electronics. Video games, TVs, radios, computers. She needs to be around flowing data.

>Bestowment: Augmented Reality
777ツ can see the digital reality that interacts with our own, visualizing code and information as it flows through the air. She can see and understand (unencrypted) information like television or wireless signals. By spending a point of Pyros she can roll Manipulation + Computers to interact with that code, as if she was using a computer. When she does, the time between rolls is cut to instant.

When driven to Torment, Nana tends to force people to pay attention to her, whether through the most attention grabbing stunts she can, or by force. Generally the focus of her desire for attention is on a specific individual, which can often be bad for that individual, or anyone who happens to have their attention (or worse, affections!). In the event that there's no one to fixate on, it tends to be rock star behavior, from reckless driving to trashing a hotel room to get in the papers. Anything you can imagine a child star doing.

Indeed, hope is all we have at this point.

However, the fact that the acquisition just happened, and plans and visions far from finalized, is the very reason why most, if not all, WW products would be on-hold or delayed. Paradox, OPP, BNS, and any other relevant party needs to figure our what now needs to happen, both in the short and long-terms.

Unfortunately, this leads me to believe it's unlikely we'll see Mage 2e before the end of the year as originally intended before recent events.

The real world becomes increasingly false, with that unrealistic hyperrealism of computer graphics. As it goes on, the world itself becomes uncanny. People and animals find it hard to go outside of their 'programming', and can even ignore injuries. Perceiving new things is difficult, and Willpower can't be spent or gained. On top of that, electronics "work" in only the loosest sense. Computers, televisions, radios, and whatnot turn on at higher levels, but that's about it. At low levels, they tend to glitch and malfunction, with refresh rates lowered, but at the highest level might replay the same scenes over and over, not that the user will tend to realize it.
Imagine the world as designed by Bethesda.

Normally a beautiful jailbait J Pop star with long blue twin tails and a look straight out of Cyberpunk (or Akihabara), when using transmutations or healing through electricity, 777ツ takes on the same hyperrealistic appearance as the world under her wasteland, but glitchy and artifacted, her 'texture' resolution wrong, and segments of her face or limbs shifted wrong, or replaced with unsettling jittery images.
